Rolli Academy

The Rolli Days project.

The Rolli Days were born in 2009 with the aim of opening up the extraordinary Genoese heritage of Le Strade Nuove and the Rolli Palace System to citizens and visitors, a cultural story that aims to reveal the profound identity of the city.

The event immediately met with enormous success among the public, which has grown exponentially over the years: the autumn edition of 2022 saw the participation of more than 60 thousand visitors, demonstrating an ever-growing trend.

One of the winning aspects of the initiative was the introduction in 2013 of a welcome organized by young professionals, who accompany visitors to discover the splendid places opened for the occasion. Over the years, given the great success of this approach, it has been necessary to have an increasingly greater number of disseminators to maintain an excellent visit experience.

The Scientific Communicator in the Rolli Days Team.

Who is the science communicator:

The scientific communicator is a humanities professional, able to express in an understandable and captivating language all the places and works that are opened and discovered by visitors during the Rolli Days.

The main objectives of his position:

  • Involve and fascinate the visitor with the themes of art, making them accessible to everyone
  • Maintain a high quality of story and effective language
  • Collaborate with colleagues and with the bodies promoting the event

A true learning community:

The short list of scientific communicators represents a real community made up of young talents, coming from all over Italy and beyond, who are passionate about the city's cultural heritage and who perfect over time both their scientific preparation and the most effective forms of dissemination for audience development.

Training:

There are two training sessions during the year. The lessons are developed both through a canonical frontal approach and through workshops, designed to test the professional through practical simulations in the opening sites.

The subjects covered range from art history to political economy concerning the city context of different historical moments, but the training also concerns issues such as public speaking, first aid and anything else necessary for welcoming a huge turnout of the public.

Co-operative learning:

For each point of interest, a team of disseminators is composed, within which there is always a contact person who has gained previous experience in the event. This organizational structure allows new disseminators to be welcomed in a self-managed manner, creating a peer-to-peer learning mechanism.

“What makes the Rolli Days a winning event are not only the skills of the disseminators but also and above all their passion, their desire to get involved to make all visitors discover the Genoese artistic and architectural heritage: a true act of 'love for art and history that goes beyond university texts and essays.'
