The Rolli Lab Call is aimed at aspiring designers and entrepreneurs, start-ups, small and medium-sized enterprises, associations, spin-offs, and individuals who can apply individually or in teams. The call was created to find new ways to increase the impact of the UNESCO World Heritage Site "Genova: Le Strade Nuove e il Sistema dei Palazzi dei Rolli."
Rolli Lab is a project created by the Municipality of Genoa, in a partnership with Fondazione Santagata for the Economics of Culture. It offers support to the most creative ideas, and aims to create a dynamic relationship between the the historical center and the city itself. The central focus of Rolli Lab is a more inclusive and sustainable approach towards territorial integration, urban development, accessibility, and usability of areas while highlighting the economic advantages of these actions.
The areas of interest of the Rolli Lab call include the UNESCO site and the buffer zone around it. The goal is to create a transversal path to connect different areas of the city, including the historical center, the Genova Blue District, a place of ideas and innovation related to the Blue Economy, and the Lanterna, the lighthouse and the symbol of the city.
The four areas of action are:
- Genova Tutela: conservation and monitoring of the heritage.
- Genova Promuove: promotion of the old city and enhancement of the Rolli buildings and Strade Nuove.
- Genova Coinvolge: public engagement.
- Genova Accoglie: visitor management and accessibility of cultural heritage.
The call was open until the 18th of April 2022 to apply with an innovative project about the UNESCO heritage site of "Genova: Le Strade Nuove e il sistema dei palazzi dei Rolli"!
The winners will receive a cash prize and will be celebrated during Rolli Days!
